How to Convert JPG to Word

About JPG/JPEG: It is a format that is used to store digital images, primarily of the photographic type. It utilizes a method of Lossy Compression which allows it to make use of relatively smaller sizes with acceptable results. The depth of compression can be customized to generate smaller sized images but with poorer quality. This is typically preferred to minimize the storage space involved in savingJPEG images.
About Microsoft Word: It is a word processor that was developed by Microsoft and is included in the Microsoft Office package. It is used to create word documents that can contain a variety of different formats, including images and graphics. The word editor enables users to create documents that can be stored in any directory on the computer. There have been multiple versions of Microsoft Word with the latest being the 2010 release (with a .docx extension). The .doc format is one of the most popularly used editors and is the standard for most text documents.
It is possible to convert a JPEG image to Word document quite easily. There are various ways to convert it (listed below). The final converted document is stored in.doc/.docx format, which can be read/opened by Microsoft Word on any machine. The different ways of converting JPG/JPEG to a Microsoft Word document are:
  1. Using Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software

  2. Embedding JPEG image into Word

Method 1 – Using Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software

In order to convert JPEG to Word using an OCR software, you may need to use a freeware or an online OCR tool. A simple online OCR tool is http://www.onlineocr.net/.

Method 2 – Embedding JPEG image into Word

1. To begin, start Microsoft Paint by clicking Start Menu > Accessories > MS Paint.
(For Windows7, it’s Start Menu > All Programs > Accessories > MS Paint)
2. Once in MS Paint, click File > Open and locate the required image file. (The image can also be opened by right-clicking on the image and selecting Open With > MS Paint)
3. Make any adjustments to the file size at this point if that is needed. You may adjust the image (crop, width, height, etc) to suit the document you will create.
4. Use the selection rectangular tool to select the areas of the picture you like, this may be all or a portion depending on your needs.
5. Once the dotted lines appear around the picture, right-click and choose copy to copy the image. Alternately, go to Edit Copy.
6. Start Microsoft Word program and create a new file.
7. Click on the Edit tab and then select Paste, the JPEG image should be displayed in the document.
8. Once the image is in the file you may modify it if it needs to be smaller. Use the arrows that are exhibited at the corners and sides of the picture utilizing your mouse. It is vital to note that stretching the image to make it larger will only distort it. If the image is too small choose a larger JPEG image prior to pasting in the Word document.
9. Once you are satisfied with the image, you may save the document by pressingCtrl + S on the keyboard or navigating to File tab and choosing Save. Enter a file name and click Save.
10. Your JPEG image has been converted and stored in Word.
